1000 Books Before Kindergarten

You are you child's first and most important teacher!  That is why the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a great program for you and your child. One of the best ways to encourage learning is to spend time sharing books every day.  Reading to your child helps develop important pre-reading skills that provide a solid foundation--a key to school and learning success.  Plus, sharing stories together is fun and memorable!

Stop by the Redgranite Library to pick up the registration folder, which includes a book bag, folder with reading tips and a reading log.  Complete the reading log by coloring in a rock for each book read, and by listing your child's five favorite books.

Each time your child reads 100 books, bring the reading log back to the library to receive a certificate and a sticker to place on a tally card.  Once your child has read 500 books, a book of interest to your child will be purchased as a complimentary gift by the Friends of the Redgranite Library.  Upon completion of the program, your child will receive a formal certificate, along with his/her name displayed on the Wall of Honor library bulletin board.

One thousand books may seem like a lot, but just remember that one book a day equals 365 books a year.  In five years you can easily read 1,825 books--that's almost 2000 books before kindergarten!
